Specialty Cleaning – the ugliest of carpet problems!
Kool-Aid, red wine, coffee or tea are the ugliest of carpet problems to home owners. When spilled onto your carpet these liquids actually bond to the carpet fibres and re-dye them. Every ones first instinct is to add water or a cleaner to them to work them out of the carpet. Unfortunately this is the worst first step that can be made to clean them up.
Follow these steps and you will remove most of the worst stains on carpets!
BLOT BLOT BLOT, take paper towels and soak up as much of the liquid as possible before anything is added to the stain. You will know when to stop blotting when you can step on a paper towel over the spill location and almost nothing more will soak into the towel.
NEXT STEP add a little water and blot again, repeating the blotting as above. This step can be completed again and again until you think no more of the offending stain will transfer into the paper towel.
NEXT STEP = STOP! Any cleaner you add to the stain at this point is likely to make the spot permanent. Chances are 90 100% of the spill is gone; the carpet has not been agitated so no damage has been made to the fibre appearance.

These specialty cleaners work best when they do not fight other cleaners added to the original problem. But . . . even the best of carpet cleaners can have trouble removing the remaining stain even if you have followed the instructions above. The chances of removing the remaining stain are 100% higher than if you didnt follow the instructions above.
